About Departly

Practical travel guides for UK travellers — calm, scannable and genuinely useful.

Departly exists to answer one question well: what do I actually need to know before travelling from the UK to a particular country? Most travel sites are written for everyone and no one. We write specifically for people departing from the UK — flights from UK airports, costs in pounds, UK adapters, GHIC, and the entry rules that apply to British passport holders.

What we cover

Each destination guide walks through the things that genuinely matter for planning: a quick summary, entry requirements, the best ways to get there, realistic budgets, how long to go, a suggested first itinerary, where to stay, getting around and honest answers to common questions.

How we research

For anything statutory or safety-critical — entry requirements, passport validity, visas, health and safety advice — the official GOV.UK foreign travel advice is our canonical source, and we link to it clearly on every guide. Our content is AI-assisted in its drafting but reviewed by a human, and every page shows a last reviewed date so you can see how current it is.

We're careful with wording. Rules can change at short notice, so we avoid absolute legal or visa claims and always point you back to GOV.UK to confirm the current position before you book or travel.

Keeping it fresh

Some information is stable — itinerary ideas, packing, plugs, which side of the road they drive on. Other information changes often — entry requirements, costs, flight availability, insurance wording. We treat entry requirements as high-priority content and keep an eye on the GOV.UK "last updated" date for every live destination.

How we pay for this

Departly is free to read. When a guide suggests a useful next step — booking a hotel, getting an eSIM, comparing travel insurance — some of those links are affiliate links, and we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These are presented as useful suggestions, never banners, and they never influence our safety or entry-requirement information. You can read our full affiliate disclosure for the details.

A note on advice

Departly is a planning aid, not an official source. We do our best to be accurate and current, but you should always confirm the latest entry rules, health requirements and safety advice on GOV.UK, and take out your own travel insurance.
