Opening hours
Daily, roughly 08:00 (some sources 09:00) until around 19:00 in summer and dusk (~16:00โ17:00) in winter. The ticket office closes about an hour before the park. Always confirm on the day, as hours shorten off-season.

In short
Visiting Butrint National Park
You can't pre-book a timed ticket for Butrint the way you would the Colosseum โ you pay at the gate in lek โ so the real planning is timing, not booking. Get there by 09:00, before the Corfu day-trip coaches and the midday heat, and budget two to three hours to walk the full loop from the Greek theatre to the baptistery mosaics and the Venetian tower. It's an 18km drive south of Saranda; the cheapest way is the furgon, the easiest a half-day guided tour that handles the transport and explains what you're looking at.
How to visit without wasting the trip
Forget skip-the-line apps here โ Butrint has no timed tickets and no advance booking, so the planning that matters is getting there and getting there early. The site sits on a wooded peninsula 18km south of Saranda; the cheapest route is the furgon that runs down past Ksamil for a few hundred lek, and the easiest is a half-day guided tour that picks you up, drives you down, and explains what youโre walking through. Pay the ~1,000 lek (about ยฃ8.70) entry in cash at the gate, and carry that lek from Saranda because thereโs no dependable ATM at the ruins.
The single mistake people make is arriving at midday with the Corfu day-trip coaches, when the peninsula is hot, humid and busy. Get there for opening, around 08:00โ09:00, and youโll have the Greek theatre and the baptistery mosaics largely to yourself. Decide on a guide before you go: the stones are romantic but cryptic without one, and a guide or audio guide is what turns the visit from a pretty walk into an actual understanding of three thousand years of Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian layers stacked on one site.
Is Butrint worth the trip from Saranda?
Allow two to three hours to do the full loop properly โ the theatre, the forum, the baptistery floor mosaics (often kept covered to protect them), the Venetian tower and the view over the lagoon โ plus thirty to forty-five minutes each way for the journey down. Go in spring or shoulder-season if you can: Butrint is at its best before the summer heat, and the wider SarandรซโKsamil road clogs badly in July and August.
At under ยฃ9 this is one of the best-value ancient sites in the Mediterranean, and the standout day trip from Saranda. Bundle it with the Blue Eye spring inland to make a full day of the run south rather than doubling back, and treat the early start as non-negotiable โ the difference between Butrint at nine and Butrint at noon is the difference between a quiet ruin and a coach park.
