Where to stay in Saranda
The central seafront puts the Corfu ferry and the Ksamil and Butrint furgons on your doorstep; only decamp to Ksamil if the coves at first light are the whole trip.

In short
Where to stay in Saranda
For a first Saranda trip, base on the central seafront near the ferry terminal unless beaches are your whole reason for coming. It puts the Corfu boat and the Ksamil and Butrint furgons on your doorstep and gives you the widest hotel choice. Choose the Kodรซr hillside for better value and quieter evenings, the north bay towards รuka for calm sea views, and Ksamil itself only if you want to be on the coves at first light.
The short version
- Best all-rounder: the central Saranda seafront, by the ferry port and furgon pick-ups.
- Best value: the Kodรซr hillside above town, with cheaper apartments a short walk down.
- Best atmosphere: the northern bay towards รuka, calmer and with sea views across to Corfu.
- Best for beach-first stays: Ksamil, but accept you are 20 minutes from the ferry and quiet out of season.
- Avoid picking a hotel on the town beach itself as your filter; the central pebble beach is the weakest swim on this stretch.
Best areas to book
Central seafront (Lungomare promenade)
ยฃยฃ mid-rangeThe promenade strip from the ferry terminal round the bay, with the densest run of hotels, restaurants and the furgon pick-ups for Ksamil and Butrint. It is the easiest base for catching the Corfu boat and day trips, and the obvious first-timer pick. The trade-off is the small, pebbly, crowded town beach and loud bars in peak summer, so book a room set back from the water for sleep.
Best for: First trips, ferry logistics, day trips, nightlife
Kodรซr (the hillside above town)
ยฃ valueThe terraced slope rising behind the seafront, packed with apartments and small family-run hotels at noticeably better rates than the waterfront. You trade a short uphill walk back from dinner for cheaper beds and bay views, and you are still ten minutes from the port. Best for couples and longer stays who want value over a sea-level room.
Best for: Value, couples, longer stays
Northern bay towards รuka and Lรซkurรซsi
ยฃยฃ mid-rangeThe quieter arc at the north end of the bay, below Lรซkurรซsi Castle, with newer apartment blocks and calmer evenings than the central drag. The sea views across to Corfu are the best in town and the water is cleaner away from the port, but you will walk or grab a short taxi for the buzz of the promenade. A good middle ground between price and peace.
Best for: Sea views, quieter evenings, returning visitors
Ksamil
ยฃยฃยฃ premiumThe cove village about 20 minutes south by furgon, sitting right on the Riviera's best beaches and swimmable islets. Stay here to be on the sand before the day-trippers arrive from Saranda, and to skip the daily commute to the good water. The catches are real: it is pricey and packed in July and August, quiet and half-shut out of season, and you are a furgon ride from the Corfu ferry and Butrint road.
Best for: Beach-first travellers, families chasing the coves
Towards Butrint / the southern lagoon
ยฃ valueThe strip of small guesthouses and rooms between Ksamil and the Butrint ruins, on the wooded peninsula past the coves. It is the closest base to Butrint National Park for an early, coach-free visit, and the calmest option of all, but it is rural โ few restaurants, no nightlife, and you depend on furgon timing or a car. Only worth it if Butrint and quiet are the priorities.
Best for: An early Butrint start, total quiet, drivers
The simple choice
If you are booking in a hurry, filter for the central seafront first, then check the Kodรซr hillside if prices look high. That one rule keeps most first-timers out of the two common traps: paying premium summer rates in Ksamil when you only swim there a few times, or stranding yourself past Butrint without a car. Base in town, day-trip to the coves, and you keep both the Corfu ferry and the furgons within a few minutes' walk.
Saranda's port sits in the town itself, so a central seafront room is a 5-10 minute walk from the Corfu ferry โ no transfer needed.
Beach reality and the Ksamil question
Don't judge the Riviera by the seafront in front of your central hotel โ Saranda's town beach is small and pebbly, and the real turquoise swimming is 20 minutes south at Ksamil. The honest call is whether to sleep there. Staying in Ksamil gets you onto the coves before the day-trippers, which is genuinely better in peak July and August, but the village empties out of season and you lose the easy ferry and furgon links. For most trips a central base plus an early furgon to Ksamil beats paying premium beach-village rates.
Compare Saranda hotelsSafety and noise
GOV.UK reports crime targeting foreigners is rare in Albania, with pickpocketing the main petty risk in crowded tourist spots, so the choice here is more about noise than safety. The central promenade bars run late in summer, so a room a street back or up on the Kodรซr hillside sleeps far better than one over the water. The bigger statutory caution is the roads: Albania has among the highest road-death rates in Europe, which is another reason to favour a walkable central base and cheap furgons over a hire car you'll park on narrow Riviera lanes.
