Nong Nooch is a sprawling 500-acre tropical garden about 18km south of Pattaya, and it is comfortably the most reliable family half-day in the area. The draw is the sheer variety of themed landscapes crammed into one site: a formal French garden, a Stonehenge replica, vast cactus and orchid collections, topiary and ornamental ponds. It is more theme park than botanical institution, and that is exactly why it works with mixed groups — keen gardeners and bored teenagers both find something.

Running through the day are the Thai cultural show (dance, music, sword-fighting, a mock wedding) and an elephant show, both at set times, so check the schedule when you arrive. There is also a Dinosaur Valley full of life-size models that younger children love. Making it work

Given the scale, the practical advice is to allow three to four hours and not try to walk every inch in the midday heat. The grounds are easy underfoot, and the buggy and tram options — included in the higher tickets — save a lot of trudging, which matters with small children or older relatives in tow.

Getting there is about 30 minutes by taxi or transfer from central Pattaya. Because it sits a fair way out, many people come on a half-day tour that bundles transport, entry and the shows; that removes the faff of finding a return taxi from a semi-remote spot, though Grab and self-drive work too. Time your visit around a show slot, take it at a gentle pace with a buggy ticket, and you have an easy, weatherproof day out that suits just about every age — which is more than most Pattaya attractions can claim.
